Finding Dublin through my dentist

While visiting my dentists in Dublin last year for cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk/articles/root-canal.html treatment before he decide to put up his guide to buying dental practices, we talked about how Dublin got to be called “Dublin”.

Of course history tells us it’s down to the Romans dating back to AD 47 when Emperor Claudius invaded the place called “Londinium”, but Archeologists from the Department of Urban Archaeology of the Museum of Dublin couldn’t find proof of military “invasion” when investigating in the 1970’s. Londinium is thought to have developed through civilian settlement and private trade.

Why the Romans named Dublin “Londinium” at that time is unclear, but historians expect a link to Celtic origins from the word Londinos meaning “wild”. This is disputed by others who think that the word is derived from European Celtic roots of Plowonida that means “the wide flowing river” (ie. the Thames).

Wherever the name developed from, Dublin in those days offered a port for trade between Britannia and Roman provinces. The port was abandoned in the 5th Century as the Roman Empire collapsed and “Londinium” was uninhabited for about 400 years thereafter until the Anglo-Saxons came to the rescue. After the great fire in 1666, “Dublin” was rebuilt in the 1700’s. Archeologists have only really learned more about “Roman Dublin” since the 1970’s.

I dont regonise myself in the mirror anymore

I couldn’t tell you how many times I looked at myself in the mirror before I got pregnant. I most surely didn’t look at myself that much when I was pregnant; and afterwards, you could most definitely forget it. I almost despise the way I look, but it’s not because of a bigger stomach, thighs, or hips: it’s the ladies up top that are causing some problems lately.

My children are old enough to where they can care for themselves a little bit now, but I still do most of the caretaking. I make lunches, read bedtime stories and give baths nightly. However, the most common thing, and I think this is for all the moms out there, is that I lack the conviction or reason to take care of myself.

This wasn’t true while I was pregnant; I housed a tiny little life and it’s a maternal instinct to care for your child, even if it requires you to care for yourself or some one else in the process. What no one tells you about the changes your body goes through during pregnancy, is that you don’t usually “bounce back.”

Some women don’t welcome the change, and likewise don’t handle it well after birth. I’m one of those women that before getting pregnant, I was entertaining thoughts on breast implants, but now the thought of breast augmentation hardly crosses my mind. The other day, I found myself reading an article and did something I haven’t done: checked myself out in the mirror.

It was a good thing I did, however, because that implant thought crossed my mind once again. How great would it be to not have to wear a bra in order to make my chest look as full as it did when I was twenty-one and child-free?

Reduction Rhinoplasty

In a reduction rhinoplasty, the exact opposite procedure is utilized with some of the framework of the nose being removed. The incisions are made within the nostrils in order to remove either the upper part of the framework which is composed of bone or the lower part which is made up of cartilage. If the goal is to straighten the nose and remove “humps”, it is necessary for the surgeon to cut away parts of the bridge. The nose is then cut and reformed in order to form a smaller, straighter nose. Reduction rhinoplasty can also be used to shorten a nose that is viewed as too long or narrow the tip of a broad nose. The procedure may also be done in combination with a septoplasty, which adjusts the bone which separates the nostrils and is done in patients who have some problems breathing. Other alterations such as changes to the cheek or chin may also be performed at the same time in order to complete the new appearance and make it appear more natural.

Both of the rhinoplasty procedures are typically performed under general anesthetic and there is therefore a possible risk of chest infections. The operation should not be performed on people who are currently suffering from a cold or sore throat as this adds to the risk of infection. It is also important to note that patients who smoke are more likely to experience infection after the procedure. Therefore, it is necessary that an individual cease smoking both before and after the operation. After a rhinoplasty is complete, the nose is placed in a splint which is typically removed after one week.

As with any procedure, certain complications and rhinoplasty side effects are possible. Bleeding is one of the possible risks and because of this, it is important that the patient not use aspirin either before or after the procedure. Aspirin acts as a blood thinner and can lead to post operative bleeding. Another possible side effect is numbness of the skin in and around the points of incision on the nose. This numbness can last for several months although it is most certainly temporary. And, although rare, patients may experience changes in their breathing as well as changes in their ability to smell.

Changes after pregnancy

For those who have had a baby, we all know that it is an excited time, and also one of the scariest times in our lives, especially if it is your first child. During the pregnancy the breasts swell to allow for the milk to come in, and they are growing to the hormones and weight gain. Many women experience little change, other’s experience a huge change that leaves them wondering if they will ever go back down to size. However, there is little to worry about. After you give birth, your hormones are released to allow milk to come into the breasts. Here you have the choice of breast feeding or not. This is a personal decision. Many swear that breastfeeding helped to keep their breasts looking good, however others who do the same disagree.

A few weeks after you are home you may notice that the areola has changed size as well as color. This usually goes away on its own, so I would not worry about that. You may also notice that since you have started to lose the weight that your breasts seem to sag or have extra skin. As you progress towards losing weight, this will get worse. However, there are ways in which you can fix this unwelcome change.

For starters, many women who lose the weight, miss the size their breasts use to be. So they undergo breast implant or breast augmentation surgery. This surgery is becoming more and more common as women begin to worry more about their appearance. During the surgery, many women request to go up a size or two, depending on their preferences. Many women also have the surgeon lift the breasts to give a more youthful feel. Either way, the end result is what women most love. They no longer have to feel self-conscious of their bodies.

Bullying at Work and The Recession

Recently, with bullying at work getting more press and attention, there has been noticed that the recession is not helping matters. In fact, bullying in workplace actually gets worse. Even though it is claimed that only an increase of four percent of Americans are now being bullied at work, that is still way to many when added to the previous numbers.

Part of the reason for the increase may be that individuals are more reluctant to leave their current employment. With jobs being so difficult to find, let alone hold, many people have decided to just tolerate it rather than face the possibility of being unemployed for any length of time.

This also holds true for those that are the bullies. These people also have fears of the unemployment lines and losing their homes or vehicles.

Guess what? This means that any individual that was previously being bullied is probably going to have the severity increased.

As bullies become more afraid of losing their jobs to those of higher knowledge or with better skills, they tend to begin bullying at work even more often with escalating effects. They certainly don’t want to lose their jobs, so they have to take care not to let some newer employees outshine them. This results in production losses which cost companies valuable time and money that they can ill afford to lose during a recession.

The end results can, in theory, be disastrous as it could lead to a company losing so much production time and paying too high in labor costs to remain open. It wouldn’t be long before both individuals were out of work along with many others.

Allowing bullying in workplace is not how companies stay in business, but rather how when times are tough, companies end up filing for bankruptcy and going out of business.

Botox Training Courses

There are many, many aesthetic schools that specialises in Botox training courses. As was mentioned in the previous article, there is a lot of extensive training involved in training how to be a professional skin care specialist.

As was also indicated, there are different cosmetic procedures that one has to consider when pursuing the cosmetic surgery field. It often involves a lot of studying, especially in understanding and studying medical terminology in understanding seemingly complex medical words as well as a lot of hours have to be taken in consideration.

Above all, one has to have a lot of determination to succeed and to be the best skin care professional can be. That’s what students will be learning about when they study about the proper use of Botox and other skin-enhancing drugs and how to administer these drugs safely.

One thing is certain:You can’t be afraid of working with human skin. This is not a profession that is for the faint-of-heart; in some cases there are going to be some blood loss. And the student has to have a lot of patience too because some procedures are more intensive and extensive than others and some patients may not heal as quickly as others depending on their physical condition.

There are various courses. Upon completion of each course, students are rewarded with Certificates of Training. AMET Botox training certificates and Dermal Filler training classes certificates are widely recognised by prestigious medical schools as evidence that one is a certified dermatologist.

Again, qualified teachers are there to patiently guide the students along, even using models to work on, to simulate the real feeling of what it would mean to actually work on a real-live patient in an real-life setting.

Cosmetic dentistry and making the big decision

Have you been considering cosmetic dentistry? Dentists in London offer a superb range of services, including teeth straightening, whitening and repairing.  Whether you think your dental needs to minor or to extensive practitioners are happy to arrange a consultation to discuss the dental jobs you would like to have done. The advice you will receive from a professional practitioner in London will be reliable as all dentists working in professional clinics have attended dental courses at higher education level.

Making the decision

Some of the things you may want to consider when deciding if to have cosmetic dentistry are: what kind of treatments you are comfortable with. For instance, are you comfortable with being anaesthetised? , do you have any concerns with the dentist removing any parts of the natural tooth to prepare for treatments like veneers? Do you prefer treatment that is going to be complete in a single visit to the dentist? How important is it that your perfect smile is developed quickly?

It is important that you tell your dentist exactly what you are and are not comfortable with. Your practitioner can sometimes offer alternative methods to avoid certain methods of treatment that you feel uncomfortable about. For instance, there are many forms of veneers and for those who do not have a budget to pay for veneers there are cheaper options to create the appearance of straight healthy teeth. All your questions and concerns can be addressed in a preliminary consultation, perhaps you could even get a check up at the same time to see if the treatments you do feel happy to go ahead are suitable.

Causes of toothache

The causes of tooth ache are not just one. There are many and varied reasons that one can associate with tooth aches. The following are some of the reasons why a person might have a toothache:

1. There are lots of gum diseases that one may have in their mouth. Though these gum diseases are not directly to the ache in the tooth, they definitely add to the pain of the tooth.

2. The sudden eruption of the wisdom tooth at some unexpected place along the jaw line might cause some pain and irritation.

3. Improper maintenance and care of the tooth can result in tooth aches. Due to improper maintenance, there are chances of the tooth getting decayed which not only results in pain for the person but it also causes lot of bad breath. The impact on the tooth due to improper maintenance will not be very quick. It will be gradual and it would take some time to show its effect. But once it show up, it becomes very difficult to resist the pain and reverse the entire thing.

4. Problems relating to the root of the tooth or some cavities in your mouth will also cause toothache. Cavity along with causing pain in the mouth also makes the tooth look unattractive and the person with such cavities in his or her mouth at times finds it difficult or awkward to laugh or smile when among a group of people or friends.

5. It is also not necessary that a toothache would generally be related only to the jaw or root of the tooth. There are many other problems that causes tooth ache.

Unusual cures for spots

You can get spots at any age, fact. Once into our twenties we breathe a sigh of relief that we have left the acne years behind, only for them to return with a vengeance in our 30’s, especially for us girls. They are even more annoying the second time around, but luckily, some of us have found better things to get rid of them than the caustic soda that used to be sold as spot remover!

The key has always been to dry a spot out, and if you have a beastie emerging, a dab of toothpaste will stop it in its tracks. You know the old trick of bursting a spot then putting aftershave on it? Well mouthwash works just as well but doesn’t sting half as much.

Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic than can be used for just a bout anything, and it’s another way of getting rid if that spot. This works particularly well on those that have a head on but are too sore to touch. For those big, red spots that pop up on the end of your nose, a great tip is to grate some soap onto a fabric elastoplast and pull it tightly over the spot. This works in two ways; the soap draws out the spot and as the air can’t get to it, it dries up. Good old Germolene has been as good around for decades, and is still as good as anything, especially if the spot has become infected. Just be careful that you don’t mix up the tubes and squirt it onto your toothbrush by accident, yuck!

So now you are prepared for your next breakout and can spot, sorry stop, them in their tracks!
